Editorial on “Women in IS: A Reflection on Diversity and Inclusion”

Jella Pfeiffer and colleagues published an editorial on Women in IS: A Reflection on Diversity and Inclusion. It examines the persistent underrepresentation of women (and other underrepresented groups) in the Information Systems (IS) field, both in research topics and among scholars, editorial boards, and authors. It presents empirical evidence showing that in the journal BISE from 2011 to 2024, women accounted for about 19–22 % of authorship, and discusses systemic challenges like invisible labor, structural support gaps, and loss of talent in academia. The article highlights initiatives (e.g. by AIS, journals, and the “WI-Frauen” network) aiming to promote gender equity, and calls for deeper reflection, inclusive policies, and sustainable commitment toward a more diverse IS community.
